Created
by U.S. Senator Dick Durbin and led by Senator Durbin, State Senator
Lisa Madigan and Mayor Doug Scott, Tomorrow's Democrats is a new
Democratic organization dedicated to providing leadership, training,
and direction for those young Democrats who want to become actively
involved in Illinois' Democratic Party.
The name 200 for 2000 (Now Tomorrow's Democrats) was derived from
the organization's original goal of assembling 200 young Democrats
from across the State to support Democratic candidates in this
year's election. The organization has quickly outgrown its namesake
goal and is pursuing a more ambitious future involvement with
Democratic politics.
Tomorrow's Democrats held its initial meeting on November 6, 1999
in Chicago, Illinois. Hosted by Senator Durbin, members of Illinois'
Democratic leadersship attended this meeting to support this new
organization. Illinois Speaker of the House of Representatives
Michael J. Madigan, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White, Congressman
Jesse Jackson, Jr., and Illinois Comptroller Daniel Hynes joined
Senator Durbin, State Senator Madigan, and Mayor Scott in welcoming
Tomorrow's Democrats into Illinois' Democratic Party. U.S. Senator
Evan Bayh (D-IN) delivered the keynote address to the organization.
Since that time, Tomorrow's Democrats' membership has actively
been involved in supporting Democratic candidates across the State
of Illinois. Our membership continues to grow, and our involvement
on behalf of the Democratic Party continues to expand. Tomorrow's
Democrats' membership is actively supporting candidates for local,
state and federal offices across Illinois.
