KEYNOTE ADDRESS - PAUL BEGALA
Paul Begala served inside the White House as Counselor to former
President Bill Clinton. In that capacity he helped define and
defend the Administration's agenda, from the State of the Union
Address to the economic, domestic and international issues the
White House faces each day. He was also one of the Administration's
principal public spokespersons.
Begala first gained prominence with partner James Carville in
the political consulting firm of Carville & Begala. As such, he
was a senior strategist for the Clinton-Gore Presidential Campaign
in 1992. He and Carville also helped direct the political strategy
of numerous other campaigns, including Senators Harris Wofford,
Frank Lautenberg and Dianne Feinstein, and Governors Zell Miller,
Bob Casey and Wallace Wilkinson.
He helped his friend John F. Kennedy, Jr. launch the political
magazine George and served as a contributing editor, writing the
"Capitol Hillbilly" column. He has also written for Esquire magazine
and The Washington Monthly, and is the author of the New York
Times best-selling book Is Our Children Learning? The Case Against
George W. Bush. Paul has also served as the co-host of the MSNBC
broadcast "Equal Time," where he did nightly battle with Lt. Col.
Oliver North.
Begala is currently a research professor of government and public
policy at Georgetown University, where he teaches undergraduates
in the Department of Government and graduate students in the Georgetown
Public Policy Institute. Paul has also taught at the University
of Texas, lectured at Oxford University in England, and participated
in symposia at schools including Harvard, Princeton and Columbia.
He is currently writing a book on political strategy with James
Carville. The working title is Battle Plans from the War Room.
