House Redistricting Subcommittee Convenes

Public Hearing in Rock Island

(Rock Island) – Today a subcommittee of the Illinois House Committee on Redistricting held a public hearing in Rock Island to gather local input on the re-map process.

"We in the legislature need public input to assist us in the redistricting process. Today’s testimony will help us reach our goal of drawing a fair map," said State Rep. Joel Brunsvold (D-Rock Island), who chaired today’s subcommittee hearing.

Representatives from several local governments testified, including Rock Island County Board members. In addition, numerous community organizations offered input on how the new legislative map is likely to impact their members.

The Rock Island hearing was one in a series being held across the state over the next few weeks to help legislators in their effort to redraw the boundaries of Illinois’ legislative and Congressional districts.

Those seeking information on the redistricting process and schedule, or updated population data can log onto the legislature’s new redistricting web site at www.ilredistricting.org.
