Redistricting Subcommittee Convenes Public
Hearing at Mozart Park
Chicago–
Today a subcommittee of the Illinois House Committee on Redistricting
held a public hearing at Mozart Park to gather local input on
the re-map process.
"Public
input is important in the redistricting process. As legislators
we want to draw a map that reflects the population changes our
area has undergone since the last re-map," said State Representative
Edward Acevedo (D-2), who chaired today’s subcommittee hearing.
Representatives
from several local governments testified, including Cook County
Commissioner Roberto Maldonado (D-8), and Alderman Ray Suarez
(D-31). In addition, numerous community organizations such as
the Mexican American Legal Defense Fund and the Near Northwest
Neighborhood Network offered input on how the new legislative
map is likely to impact their members.
The
Mozart Park hearing was one in a series being held across the
state over the next few weeks to help legislators in their effort
to redraw the boundaries of Illinois’ legislative and Congressional
districts.
Those

or updated population data can log onto the legislature’s new
