House Redistricting
Subcommittee Convenes Public
Hearing in Bloomington
(Bloomington)
– Today a subcommittee of the Illinois House Committee on Redistricting
held a public hearing in Bloomington to gather local input on
the re-map process.
"Gathering
public input is an important step in the redistricting process.
The goal of the legislature is to draw a map that fairly and accurately
reflects the population changes this region has undergone over
the past ten years," said State Rep. Gary Hannig (D-Litchfield),
who chaired today’s subcommittee hearing.
Representatives
from several local governments testified, including McLean and
Kankakee County Board members. In addition, numerous community
organizations such as the Kanakee and Bloomington Chapters of
the NAACP offered input on how the new legislative map is likely
to impact their members.
The Bloomington
hearing was one in a series being held across the state over the
next few weeks to help legislators in their effort to redraw the
boundaries of Illinois’ legislative and Congressional districts.
Those seeking
information on the redistricting process and schedule, or updated
population data can log onto the legislature’s new redistricting
web site at www.ilredistricting.org.
