EDWARDS
TO JOIN DURBIN AT IL STATE FAIR ON DEMOCRAT DAY
U.S. Sen. John Edwards (D-NC) has accepted an invitation
from U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin to be the keynote speaker Democrat Day
at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield on Thursday August 15, 2002.
Durbin will introduce Edwards to the Democratic statewide
ticket as well as Illinois Democrats throughout the state as one
of the rising stars in the party. Edwards, who is traveling around
the country during the Senate's August recess, will join Durbin
for the Democratic Convention at the Crown Plaza Hotel and the Democratic
Rally on the State Fair grounds.
"John Edwards has proved a tireless advocate
for working families in the U.S. Senate," Durbin said. "His
energy and ideas are strong assets to our party as we fight corporate
irresponsibility and work toward passing quality, affordable healthcare
for all Americans."
"Democrats are energized for 2002 with
a strong ticket that will bring us our first Democratic governor
in more than 25 years. I know my colleague John Edwards will be
as impressed with our commitment to victory in November as I am,"
Durbin said.
Edwards was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1998,
when he defeated Republican incumbent Sen. Lauch Faircloth. He and
Durbin serve together on the Senate Intelligence Committee.
