DURBIN TO CELEBRATE SUCESSFUL COMMUNITY-BUILDING PARTNERSHIPS

Senator to Visit St. Augustine College, UIC, Pilsen, and the Back of the Yards Neighborhood

Public Schedule for U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) for Saturday, June 8, 2002:

10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.
Durbin will meet with the Student Leadership Team of the ENLACE (Engaging Latino Communities for Education) Partnership, consisting of 28 middle school, high school and college students working together successfully to foster greater community involvement, academic achievement and family empowerment.Durbin will meet with the ENLACE Partnership in the cafeteria at St. Augustine College, 1333-45 W. Argyle Street in Chicago.

1:00 a.m. –11:45 p.m.
Durbin will participate in 25th Ward Alderman Danny Solis’ 6th Annual UIC Youth Sports Fun Fair. The Fair fosters interaction of the 25th Ward’s diverse communities, provides fun activities for children, and promotes pride in the neighborhoods of the 25th Ward. The Fair will take place at the UIC South Field Complex, 901 West 14th Place, in Chicago.

12:00 p.m. –12:30 p.m.
Durbin will tour the current Pilsen YMCA and the proposed new location for the Pilsen YMCA. He will be joined on this tour by 22nd Ward Alderman Ricardo Muñoz and 25th Ward Alderman Solis to highlight the importance of the YMCA’s services to the Pilsen community.

The site visit will begin with a tour of the current Pilsen YMCA at 1608 W. 21st Place. Durbin will then proceed to the site of the proposed new YMCA location at 26th and Western in Chicago.

2:00 p.m. –2:30 p.m.
Durbin will attend the Fiesta Back of the Yards, which attracts more than 3000 Mexican Americans for music, food and dance. Durbin will be joined by Alderman Ray Frias, State Representative Susana Mendoza and Back of the Yards business leaders for the tour of this celebrated community event.

The tour will begin at the Park Federal Savings Booth at 47th Street and Wood Street in Chicago.
