Cuba
Relations
We need to continue to do everything we can to support
democratic reform in Cuba and encourage the Cuban people to replace
Fidel Castro. I believe the United States must make a greater effort
to engage Cuba, so I have cosponsored the Bridges to the Cuban People
Act (S. 1017), which, among other provisions, authorizes the unrestricted
sale of food, farm equipment, and medicines to Cuba; removes restrictions
on vessels carrying legal exports to Cuba; and removes restrictions
on travel to Cuba by U.S. citizens.
I have consistently supported legislation to allow food and medicine
to be traded with Cuba, and I oppose restrictions on travel to Cuba
by Americans. I am a cosponsor of a bill that would repeal trade financing
and travel restrictions.
Restricting trade with Cuba has not left Castro malnourished but it
has left the Cuban people without vital goods and services. We need
to repeal the trade ban to help the Cuban people. |
