ABOUT CHUB CONNER
Background
Chub Conner was born and raised in Tuscola where he attended both elementary and high school. Chub has served his community for over thirty years. As teacher, government administrator, law enforcement official, Sheriff, and County Board member, Chub's career has been dedicated to helping people. Chub is running for state representative so that he may continue that legacy.

Chub and his wife Patty are blessed with eight children and ten grandchildren. Chub currently serves on the Douglas County Board and teaches Law Enforcement at Lake Land College.

Education & Work Experience
After graduating high school, Chub attended Eastern Illinois University where he received his B.S. in Education. Upon receiving his college degree, Chub spent the next several years teaching junior and high school biology and general science.

After teaching, Chub was asked to serve as the Superintendent of Douglas County Department of Public Aid. In this capacity, he administered public assistance programs for the aged, blind, disabled, and families with dependent children. Chub's performance as superintendent resulted in his appointment as Statewide Supervisor of Recipient Education and Training.

As the Statewide Supervisor of Recipient Education and Training, Chub was responsible for administering a $7.5 million adult education training program. Chub continued in the area of adult education and served as statewide director with the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Chub was asked to return to the Department of Public Aid to coordinate and conduct an evaluation of its Bureau of Special Investigations. The Bureau oversees the investigation of all welfare and food stamp fraud and conducts internal criminal investigations within the department. Chub was asked to reorganize the agency to improve efficiency and weed out corruption.

After Chub completed the reorganization at Public Aid, he was named Chief Executive Officer of the Bureau of Special Investigations for all 101 downstate counties. After attending the Chicago Police Academy for additional training, Chub directed nine ofices with approximately sixty employees for the Bureau.

Chub made history in 1982 when he became one of the first Democrat Sheriff elected in Douglas County. After a successful first term, Chub once again made history when he became the first Douglas County Democrat ever re-elected to a second term.

Chub's terms as Sheriff marked a new era in Douglas County law enforcement. Chub initiated undercover operations, formed the first Douglas county Drug Task Force, began the first school drug awareness program in the county, and created the first victims' advocacy program. Chub also served as an executive board member of the Illinois Sheriff's Association and helped establish policies and procedures for Illinois Sheriffs across the state. It was at this time that Chub was among an elite group of officers selected to attend the F.B.I. National Academy to receive specialized training.

Chub's campaigns for Sheriff were policy-based and he refused to engage in negative campaigning. Chub convinced voters to reject negative campaigning, set aside partisan politics, and vote for the best person for the job. Chub will continue this effort during his campaign for state representative.

After serving two-terms as Douglas County Sheriff, Chub returned to his roots and began teaching criminal justice at Lake Land College. Twice selected by his students as Outstanding College Instructor, Chub has immersed himself in college activities while at Lake Land. While teaching at the college he served as Secretary, Vice President, and President of the Lake Land College Union. He also served on numerous college committees for the college including the Institutional Integrity Committee, preparation for the North Central Accreditation review, and development of the college alcohol and drug policy.
